BIO
Rubem Robierb was born in the Brazilian state of Maranhão in 1976, which is also the cradle of several Brazilian poets. For many years, Robierb lived between poetry and photography using photos to translate his words into images and make them visual. As time went by, the artist found that he had little time for writing because photography had become the greatest part of his life and work. It suffices to say that Robierb didn’t necessarily stop writing but merely began to write with lights … not words. Today, Robierb says he believes his pictures are to be read. At the age of 20, Robierb moved to São Paulo, Brazil to become a professional photographer in the advertising industry. Art et Partage Asociation in Aix en Provence, France, sponsored his solo show Brezil Autrement, and a book for his works. In Zurich, Image House Gallery also presented his solo show Brezil Autrement. In Paris, Quadra Gallery presented his series Visages Metis. In Milan, The Brezil-Italy Institute presented his series Negros in a solo show.
In Monaco, he participated in the Art Curial Monaco for Fight Aids. In Sao Paulo, at The Alliance Francaise, he had his solo show Brezil Autrement. His works are represented in collections in New York, Milan, Paris, Monaco, Zurich, and Miami.
Rubem Robierb views the human form as a container that can be filled, or interpreted in a multitude of ways.
STARTEMENT
As an Artist, Robierb focuses on the human figure as his main theme. His style is rather edgy, and for that very reason, quite motivating. Robierb is keen on photographing all sorts of people, of all ethnicities, shapes and styles, caught in a vast web of diversified situations and places. His portraits show the cultural diversity of his native country, Brazil, focusing primarily on the various ethnic cultures. The diversity includes not only the Amazonian native tribes, but also the everyday citizens of metropolitan Brazil. His photographs provoke the viewers endless questioning of the human body whereby they provide the viewer with a visual communication through religion, fashion, culture and nature.
Robierb’s work uncovers human emotions through facial expressions. His unique method of photographing unexpected facial angles reveals the uniqueness of human nature in their opposite state such as masculine and feminine, white and black, good and evil, happiness and sorrow, and peace and anger.
